Carl Nelson Hobbs, a resident of Dothan, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL. He was 75.


Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2016 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel on West Main Street with Pastor Bob Ratcliff and Pastor David O. Livermore officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Dothan First Seventh-Day Adventist Church, New Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2053, Dothan, AL 36302.


Carl was born in October, 1940 in Ashford, AL to Homer and Pammie (Whitehead) Hobbs. He graduated from Ashford High School in 1959. On February 3, 1962 he married the love of his life, Eva Lynell Thrower, of Slocomb, AL. Carl was employed in construction for several years. In 1972, he founded Carl Hobbs’ Construction Company, Inc. and became one of the leading builders in the Wiregrass Area. He was named “Builder of the Year” by the Dothan and Wiregrass Area Homebuilders Association in 1985 and later served as President of this organization. Carl retired from the construction business and sold his company in 2009. He became associated with Byrd Funeral Home in 1992 as a funeral attendant and in 2012 signed on as a part-time employee serving in that capacity until his death.


Carl was a devoted Seventh-day Adventist Christian who was loved and respected for his integrity, his kind, helpful demeanor, his sweet spirit and his caring heart. He enjoyed farming and spending time with family and friends, especially his wife, children, and grandchildren.


Carl is survived by his wife, Eva of Dothan, AL and his two sons, Stanley Nelson Hobbs, his wife, Barbara, and their children, Caitlin Kawamura (Jason) and Colton and Norman Edward Hobbs, his wife, April, and their children, Savannah and Nelson. He is also survived by three brothers, Lerry and his wife Wanda, Jerry and Jerome, as well as several nieces and nephews.
