Mr. Carlis Johnson Farris Jr., 82, a resident of Ashford, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023, at Henry County Health and Rehab.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mike Grimes officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 am until 10:45 am prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to Grandview Baptist Church, 2400 Forrester Rd., Dothan, Al. 36301.
Mr. Farris was born April 4, 1941, in Eddyville, Illinois the son of Carlis Johnson Farris Sr. and Georgia Elizabeth Farris. He moved with his family to Dothan from Peoria, Illinois when he was 12 years old. Mr. Farris first worked at the Cigar Factory then built Farris Garage and Filling Station, he then was maintenance supervisor at the hospital in Donalsonville, Georgia before joining Ford as a troubleshooter where he worked for 16 years. He then built another Paint and Body Garage where he restored Mustangs until he began installing and building Satellite’s for 5 years then worked in the Nuclear Industry for 15 years. Mr. Farris and his wife moved to New Jersey where he was Supervisor of Maintenance at the Beachcomber Camping Resort for 14 years until retiring and moving back to Ashford in 2009. He loved working on anything mechanical, hunting, puzzles and his family most of all.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Ruby Hawkins Mosely and Francis Thomas.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Janice Clayton Farris, Ashford; two daughters, Carla Arnold (Steve) of Ashford, Lyteasa Easterwood (Eric) of Ashford; a sister, Carolyn Wright (Jim) of Avon; grandchildren, Zach Arnold (Emily), Taylor Tiller (Greg), B.J. Ryals (Rachel), Matthew Ryals, Kaitey Easterwood; Great Grandchildren, Halo, Aeriyn, Gregory, Abigail, Olivia, Elise, Emma, and Cash.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Boots Davis Sunday School Class.
