Caroline Gachet Mims, a resident of Abbeville, died Monday afternoon, November 23, 2015. She was 81.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 29, 2015, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Otis Derrah officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, Alabama 36310.
Mrs. Mims was born in Barbour County, near Clio, daughter of the late James Willis Gachet and Frankie McQueen Gachet. She lived in Abbeville most of her lifetime and was retired as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the Henry County Hospital. In later years, Mrs. Mims was employed as a private duty nurse. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Mims was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sara Stephanie Helms, her husbands, Thomas L. Helms, Sr., Hiram Mack Granberry and Billy Edgar Mims, a sister, Ruth Gachet Hagler and a brother, William Gachet.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Charlotte Strickland (Joel), Abbeville; a son, Thomas L. “Tom” Helms, Jr. (Sara), Kent, WA; a sister, Louise Bowden (Charles), Clayton; a sister-in-law, Judy Gachet, Clio; and two brothers, James M. Gachet (Mildred), Clanton; Chalmers Gachet (Ann), Skipperville.
