It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carolyn Horne Benton, and who left us on August 19, 2024. Born on September 1, 1945, Carolyn was the first of a set of blonde-haired, blue-eyed twin girls. As the youngest of a large and loving family of ten, Carolyn’s arrival brought immense joy and completed the family.

Carolyn grew up in Newville, Alabama, where she married the love of her life, Wayne Benton. They were married in 1963 and 1969, they welcomed their only child, Wendy Benton, who became the center of their world.

Carolyn was a woman full of love. She loved her family, her friends, and life itself. She loved to dance, listen to music, and laugh.

Holidays and birthdays were extra special in the family as the twin sisters shared together. Those moments with family were filled with love, joy, and cherished memories as they celebrated with loved ones.

Carolyn had a deep love for animals, especially her granddog Gigi and rescue cat Oreo. She was known for her spicy personality and was never afraid to speak her mind. Her candidness and authenticity were some of the traits that made her so special. The last five years of Carolyn’s life, while difficult, were also incredibly special. She lived with her loyal son-in-law, Mil, and her devoted daughter, Wendy. Carolyn loved Mil like a son and took great care in making sure he always had a freshly ironed shirt for work. She never missed an opportunity to compliment Mil on his appearance. The last four months were challenging, but Wendy and Mil were tireless in their care and love for Carolyn. There were tears, laughter, and an abundance of love. Wendy was able to provide the same level of care for Carolyn that she had witnessed her mother provide for others throughout her life.

Carolyn never missed an opportunity to express her love for Jesus. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she shared it with everyone she met. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that she is now in the arms of Jesus.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; Lena and Floyd Horne, husband, Wayne Benton; twin sister, Marolyn Pich and other sisters, L.E. Elizabeth Ward, Christine Parker, Mollie Tindol, Betty McNeal, and Vivian Enfinger; her brother, Bill Horne. She is survived by her daughter Wendy Benton Tatom and son-in-law Mil Tatom of Dothan, and several wonderful nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to her caregivers Janice Cook, Dottie DeGregorio, and Amber Clark with Wiregrass Home Care; her hospice nurses Kaylie Swords, Ellen Jones, and Shannon Burdeshaw.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Tim Mayhall officiating. The family will be receiving friends and family for visitation from 1 pm until 2:15 pm with the funeral service starting at 2:30. Burial will follow in the Memory Hill Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted.

Active pallbearers will be: Steve Hamner, John Tatom, Dr Michael Williams, Dr Fred Pich III, Zachary Blount, and Ian Pich.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Tatom, Sr, Fred Pich Jr., Mark Moore, Allen Parrish, and Andrew Morris.
