Carolyn I. Simmons, a resident of Ozark, died Thursday, November 17, 2016 at her residence. She was 84.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Gaither officiating. Burial will follow in Center Ridge Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 on Sunday prior to service time.
Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Mrs. Simmons was born May 7, 1932 in Covington County, Alabama and lived the early years of her life there. In the early 1950’s she married Rufus E. Simmons and traveled with him throughout his military career. They moved to Ozark in the early 1970’s and she was employed with the Ozark City School System for 20 years prior to her retirement. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Center Ridge Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and she, along with her late husband, served as excellent role models for their family.
Mrs. Simmons is predeceased by her husband, Rufus E. Simmons, her parents, James Aubrey and Mary Emma Pridgen Hartzog, a brother, Billy James Hartzog and a sister, Betty Hartzog.
Survivors include two children, Mickey Simmons and his wife Linda, of Enterprise and Ricky Simmons and his wife, Linda of Augusta, GA; two sisters, Patricia Rivenbark of Reno, NV and Kathryn Lee, of Hamilton, GA; a brother and sister-in-law, Rex Hartzog (Marie) of Goldsboro, NC and a grandson, Tyler Simmons of Enterprise.
