Carolyn Jones Gauss of Westville, FL, passed away at her home on Monday, April 20, 2020. She was 77 years old.


In consideration of community health and the State of Alabama public health orders that are in effect due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), a private graveside service will be held for immediate family only with Rev. Moe Pujol officiating and her son, Jay Howell delivering the eulogy.


Carolyn was born in Samson, AL on February 21, 1943 to the late Howell Morris and Fannie Willis Jones. Carolyn was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Early in her working career, she trained under and worked alongside Mrs. Geraldine Cowan, where she received her cosmetology license. She later owned and operated Carol’s Beauty Lounge in Geneva for several years. Before retirement, she worked as a PCA at Wiregrass Medical Center where she was able to take care of patients with a loving heart and giving spirit. Mrs. Carolyn was a faithful member of Mt. Ida Congregational Methodist Church.


In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by the father of her children, John Herbert Howell, Sr., a great granddaughter, Ahri Grace Kyser; three sisters, Mable Kilcrease, Mildred Dozier, and Evelyn Grace Weeks.


She is survived by her husband, George W. Gauss of Westville, FL; one son, John Herbert “Jay” Howell, Jr (Vickie) of Samson; one daughter, Tina Vanessia Howell Jimmerson (Keith) of Cowarts; four grandchildren, Hunter Howell (Karla) of Coffee Springs, Heath Howell of Samson, Crystal Jimmerson Kyser (David) of Hartford, and Bradley Jimmerson (Bianca) of Pensacola, FL, seven great grandchildren, Special life-long friends, Nikki Brackett of Westville, FL and Francis Harrison of Bonifay, FL and a number of special nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.   


The family would like to thank Covenant Care, especially Jimmy, Adrianna, and Tracy for their devoted love and care.
