Evangelist Carolyn Riley Thomas, a resident of Dothan crossed over on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at a local hospital. She was 59 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bobby Frison officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Carolyn was born November 20, 1958 in Houston County and resided in Dothan most of her life. She was a 1978 graduate of Dothan High School and attended Wallace College where she received her nursing degree in 1981. She was employed with Southeast Alabama Medical Center and Flowers Hospital for several years, but most of her career was spent as an LPN with Extendicare where she worked for over 20 years prior to her retirement in 2007. She also worked as a substitute teacher with Dothan City Schools. Carolyn was a servant to the Lord and she was especially gifted at evangelizing and bringing people to know God.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her son, Jason Thomas, brother, John Wallace Riley, Jr., mother, Alfoyer Riley, and nephew, Jeffery Jerome Riley.
Survivors include her father and stepmother, James and Sarah Cox; her loving ex-husband, Matthew Thomas; sons, Styran (JeJe) Thomas and Adrian (Rosteaua) Thomas; grandchildren, La’Nayah Thomas, Jhourni Wilson, Adrian K. Thomas, Jr., Avante Thomas, Kalani Thomas, and Kamari K. Thomas; sisters, Janet Varner, Bernice Riley, Malacker (David) Reynolds, Sheila Cox, Tessie (William) Herriott, Janet Cox, and Ramona (Shawn) Pye; special uncle, Willard Pace; nieces and nephews, Demetrius Varner, Brian Varner, Davion Riley, and Desmond Riley; an Uncle Ira Cox; her grandchildren’s mothers whom she loved as daughters, Krysti Thomas, Dionne Kelly, April Franklin and Latoya Thomas; a host of other relatives and friends; a final friend Bo Williams.
