COLUMBIA…Carolyn Roney Wood, a resident of Columbia, died late Monday evening, August 3, 2015, in a Dothan hospital. She was 93.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 5, 2015, in the First Baptist Church of Columbia with Pastor Tony Deese officiating.  Burial will follow in the Columbia City Cemetery.  Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Home for Children, 905 Ashland Highway, Talladega, AL 35160-2586 or to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201.


            Mrs. Wood, daughter of the late John Allen Roney and Lucy Neal Brackin Roney, was a native of Henry County and lived most of her lifetime in Columbia. She was a member of the Columbia Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Wood was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy years, Edwin King Wood, two sisters, Belma Floyd and Evelyn Prickett, and two brothers, Berman Roney and Thearon Roney.


            Surviving relatives include four sisters-in-law, Lida Landreth, Chattanooga, TN; Janie Wood, Spanish Fort, AL; Carol Murphy, Alabaster, AL; and Betty Storrs, Skyesville, MD; several nieces and nephews including nieces, Belinda Butler (Tommy), Montevallo, AL, and Shirley Benson Foster (John), Birmingham; nephews, Don Roney, Guam, and Larry Roney, Phenix City, AL.; and many special friends.
