Ms. Carrie was born July 6, 1908 in Marianna, FL to the late Shepard and Jeanette McKinney. After moving from Florida, she moved to the community of Bay Springs, AL. While in Bay Springs she met and married the late Waymon Hughes. They were married for 61 years until his death. To this union a beautiful daughter was conceived; the late Lela Mae Hughes Williams.
During Ms. Carrie’s residency in Bay Springs she became a faithful member at St. Peter A.M.E. Church where she was very active and attended church services consistently. Her acceptance of Jesus Christ at St. Peter was a testament of her commitment and faithfulness to the Lord. Later Ms. Carrie moved to Dothan and joined Cherry Street A.M.E. Church. While at Cherry Street she was a member of the Missionary Society. She attended church until her health failed and she was unable to attend. Although she wasn’t there physically, she was there in spirit and her mind was very keen and sharp.
