On the evening of October 19, 2015, Carrie Irwin Hughes passed away after a long battle with cancer. She was a resident of Deatsville, Alabama and was 38 years old. Family and friends surrounded Carrie at her time of death.
Carrie Hughes was born in Dothan, Alabama on October 6, 1977. She was the first born of Edward and Mary Irwin. Carrie graduated from Northside Methodist Academy in 1997 and shortly after graduation she was married to Jeremy L. Hughes. In 2008, Carrie and her husband welcomed a daughter, Kaylee Elizabeth Hughes. After the birth of their daughter, Jeremy and Carrie Hughes relocated to Deatsville, Alabama. She was a devoted mother and wife. Carrie was a constant support to everyone around her. Her enthusiasm for life was apparent in her everyday acts. Many gravitated to her positive attitude, exuberant strength and selfless nature. An infant son, Aiden Parker Hughes and mother, Mary C. Irwin, preceded Carrie Hughes in death.
She is survived by her husband of 18 years Jeremy Hughes of Webb/Deatsville, daughter, Kaylee Elizabeth Hughes. Father, Edward Patrick Irwin of Dothan. Three sisters, Margaret Irwin Stuart (Brian) of Daphne, Kathryn Irwin Piburn (Lee) of Edmond, OK and Patricia Irwin Johnson (David) of Spanish Fort. A great Aunt and Uncle, Byron and Kathleen Coleman of Montgomery. She also is survived by a large extended family which includes, aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends who loved her and will miss her greatly.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, October 23, 2015 at the Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Durwood Knowles officiating. Burial will be 11:00am Saturday October 24, 2015 at Valley Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Selma, Al with Rev. Dave Burns officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm-2:00pm prior to the service on Friday.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Brent Bumpus, Tyler McGriff, Aaron McGriff, Kevin Cook, Danny Doucette and Ben Irwin. Honorary pall bearers Brian Stuart, Lee Piburn, and David Johnson.
Special Thanks to The Regions Family, The Dance Family, The Tuesday Lunch Bunch NMA Family, The First Baptist of Prattville Family, The City of Millbrook Family and many longtime friends including Tara Poole, Hope Baker, Ann Marie Fuller, The MaHanics, Samantha Cook, Fanny Doucette and Holly McGriff.
Flowers will be accepted, however, donations are encouraged to be made to March of Dimes or The Breast Cancer Charities of America.
