Mr. Cecil Grimes of Coffee Springs, AL passed away Monday, January 21, 2013. He was 90.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 25 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Buel Eldridge officiating. Burial will follow in the Travelers Rest Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, January 24, from 6 until 8 p.m.
Mr. Grimes was born October 25, 1922 to the late Andrew Daniel and Mary Bell Bradley Grimes. He was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Grimes served in the US Navy for three years. He was a self-employed electrician and loved his fruit and vegetable garden. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents one daughter, Sandra Grimes, son-in-law Bill Howerton, two brothers: Roger and Perry Grimes; three sisters: Annie Stinson, Merle Powell and Mildred Morgan preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Merlin Spears Grimes of Coffee Springs, two daughters; Wylene Howerton of Coffee Springs and Beverly Balish (Rick) of Dearborn Heights, MI; five grandchildren: Kelley Stedman of Enterprise, Michael Howerton (Cindy) of Opp, Kathy Newsome of Coffee Springs, Jamie Ward (Joe) and Eric Balish (Cindi); ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
