Charlene (Sherry) Gale Monk, 67, passed away at home, on May 1, 2024, following an extended illness. She had spent time caring for her elderly parents, though she, too, was ill.

Sherry was born August 24, 1956, in Ft. Benning (now Ft. Moore), Ga. She lived most of her life in southeast Alabama. She attended Slocomb High School and excelled in Spelling and Home Ec.

Sherry was an avid homemaker. Her home was always neat and clean. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and decorating. She loved flowers and indoor plants. She enjoyed listening to music and was a great dancer. When she was young, Sherry enjoyed taking care of her sister and brother. Her Grandaddy used to call her their “Little Mama”.

Sherry, especially, will be remembered for her great sense of humor, her very generous spirit, and her infectious smile.

Sherry is survived by her three children:  Maria Zalenski (husband Doug), Michael Knight, and Tracie Kelly; four grandchildren: Megan, Brady, Mia, and Travis; her father, John Monk; a sister, Paula Baxley (husband Greg), a brother, John Monk, Jr. (wife Michelle) and several nieces and nephews.

Sherry was preceded in death by her mother, Jeanette Monk, and a nephew, Jared Baxley.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 11 AM at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Flowers will be accepted.
