Charles Byrd Averett, of Enterprise, died Monday, October 29, 2018 at his residence.  He was 87.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Mynatt officiating.  Burial will follow in the Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory directing.  The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday beginning at 1:00 and continuing until service time.


Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 500 Alberta Street, Enterprise, AL 36330.


Mr. Averett was born May 31, 1931, in Dale County, to the late Bryant Shelly and Carrie Samantha Byrd Averett.  Mr. Averett served in the Air Force during the Korean War, and then was an Officer in the National Guard, called back into service during the Berlin Crisis.  He was also Commanding Officer of a Reserve Quartermaster Company in Enterprise, AL.  He had employment with contractors at Ft. Rucker prior to employment with The Bank of Ozark, Enterprise Banking Company, and Southtrust Bank until his retirement.  He was a License Security Dealer with the New York Stock Exchange.


Mr. Averett was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Louise Averett Chalker; four brothers: Horace Dillard, Walter Clinton, Shelly Junior, and Ray Eugene Averett; and daughter-in-law, Wendy Walden Averett.


He is survived by his wife, Betty Jones Averett; three sons: Ronald Wade Averett (Kere) of Ivyland, PA, Mark Lenwood (Kimberly) Averett of Dothan, Kevin Dwain Averett of Georgia; five grandchildren: Lindsey Wallace (Chris), Camaron Averett (Erica) of Enterprise, Karlee Averett of PA, Rory Averett of Baltimore, MD, and Hollyn Averett of Ivyland, PA; one great-granddaughter, Emery Madilyn Averett; one great-grandson, Walker Lee Wallace; one sister-in-law, Maude Parker Averett of Montgomery, AL.
