Charles “Chuck” Simerlein, of Dothan passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at his residence. He was 91.


Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday, January 4, 2018 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. Military honors will follow. Burial will be at Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens in Opp, AL. The family will receive friends 10-11 am prior to the services at the funeral home.


Mr. Simerlein was born on September 16, 1926 in New Jersey and lived his earlier years in that area. He served in the US Navy during World War II between 1944 and 1946 until he was honorably discharged. Mr. Simerlein devoted most of his years to the automotive field and retired from Volvo of America in Rockleigh, NJ in 1981. He held many positions at Volvo including Service Representative, Regional Sales Manager of the New York City area, and Manager of Product Compliance as it related to safety and exhaust emissions standards. Mr. Simerlein earned his private pilots license in 1946 and loved to fly his own aircraft. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol in Mesa, Arizona and a member of the Experiment Aircraft Association. Mr. Simerlein was an avid dirt bike rider and loved touring on his Goldwing Motorcycle. He was also a professional musician, and played the organ in many of the north New Jersey skating rinks. He also competed in many dance skating events within the state and national level. Mr. Simerlein was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an usher at St. Columba Catholic Church.


Mr. Simerlein is survived by his daughter, Sandra L. Simerlein of Dothan.
