Charles “Charlie Frank” “Chuck” Clay was born on May 10, 1933 in Hazlehurst, MS to Florence Curry. Charles was raised by Hamp & Maggie Clay, who were devoted to him and a great influence in his life. Charles lived in Hazlehurst, MS until the age of 18 when he graduated Hazlehurst HS and then joined the US Army. Also raised in Hazlehurst were his siblings, including his baby sister Roberta Brunt. After serving in the US Army, Charles went to Chicago, IL where he met and married the love of his life, Ethel, who proceeded him in death. Charles ; Ethel were married for 35 years and from their union they proudly raised Monica (John “Boe) Clay-McDaniel, Marc Dennis Clay – who proceeded his mother and father in death, Mallory Lyn Clay, Megan (Alicia) Patricia Clay & Melonnie (Ezederick) Charles Clay. Later in life Charles was blessed with a 5 th daughter, Tyra Alexis. In addition to his children, Charles leaves to mourn him 7 grandchildren; Catherine “Punky” (Mallory), Mya & Anthony “Stevie” Jr. (Monica), Madison (Megan), Kendrick “Chad” – who proceeded his
grandfather in death, Martez & Jahari “Sugga” (Melonnie). As well as a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, friends & family.
Charles went on to further his education by obtaining his MBA. He was a good provider, dedicated father and hard worker. Charles retired from Navistar International (IL) after 30 years of service and then from Globe Motors (AL) after another 10 years of service. He never missed a day of work in over 40 years. Charles was an avid golfer who claimed many trophies & championships at various tournaments throughout the country.
When Charles relocated to Dothan, AL he made a great life for himself and Melonnie “Mook” and also established some beautiful relationships and friendships including his friend & companion, Marcilla Starling and her children JaLesa & Kenneth Starling, his McDonalds crew who have all proceeded him in death and his buddy & son-in-law Ezederick Eady who was there with him to the very end. On October 15, 2022 Charles was peacefully called home to join his love, Ethel, in their eternal resting place.
