DOTHAN…Charles Edward “Snook” Barnes, a resident of Dothan, died Monday afternoon, April 25, 2016, in a Dothan hospital. He was 71.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 28, 2016, in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, near Abbeville, with Reverend Merrell Henry, Reverend Ray S. Reiley and Reverend Van Clack officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery. Holman Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Abbeville.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, c/o Henry Reynolds, 3945 County Road 40, Newville, Alabama 36353 or the Fellowship Baptist Church, c/o Robb Cleveland, 5651 State Highway 27, Newville, Alabama 36353 or the Heritage Baptist Church, 1951 Westgate Parkway, Dothan, Alabama 36303.


            Mr. Barnes was born and reared in Abbeville, son of the late Howard Barnes and Frances Robbie Smith Barnes. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Barnes retired from the Michelin Tire Corporation after thirty years employment. He moved to Dothan in 1979 and was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church. Mr. Barnes was a former member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Shirley L. Barnes; three daughters, Kim Barnes, Dothan; Jennifer Henry (Reverend Merrell), Ozark; April Johnson (Derric), Chipley, FL; a son, Michael Barnes, Dothan; two sisters, Evelyn Hutto (Robert), Abbeville; and Martha Goree (Jeff), Columbia; four brothers, Bill Barnes (Betty) and Gene Barnes (Charlotte), all of Abbeville; Ronnie Joe Barnes, Tuscaloosa; Larry Barnes, Abbeville; three grandchildren, Sarabeth Henry, Mia Henry, and Annslee Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Gene Barnes, Larry Barnes, Bill Barnes, Ronnie Joe Barnes, Robert Hutto, Jeff Goree, and Derric Johnson. The Men’s Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
