Charles F. McLeod Jr., 92, a believer in and faithful follower of Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior, passed away Friday, February 20, 2015 at his residence following an extended illness.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 23, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Dothan with Rev. Cecil Sanders and Dr. Johnny Fain officiating. Burial will follow in Dothan City Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gideon's International, P.O. Box 5554, Dothan, AL, 36302 or to First Baptist Church, 300 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL, 36303.
Mr. McLeod was born June 16, 1922 in Montgomery, AL. He was the eldest child of the late Charles and Kathleen McLeod. Following graduation from Dothan High School, Mr. McLeod entered the Army Air Corps and served in Italy during WWII. He attained the rank of Corporal. Following his discharge from the service Mr. McLeod worked for the Dothan Post Office for 33 years and at the time of his retirement in 1980 he was serving as Assistant Postmaster. He was a skilled woodworker and avid gardener. Following his retirement, Mr. McLeod was active in the Gideon’s and the Kiwanis of Dothan. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan for 69 years where he worked with groups of young people, was a Sunday School teacher and was a Deacon for many years.
Mr. McLeod was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Carolyn Barcroft McLeod and also by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Pattillo McLeod; daughters, Dianne Hadley (Tom Wilcox) of Aiken, SC, Gayle (David) Parsons of Dothan, AL, and Karen (Kirby) Parks of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Keith (Dawn) Hadley, Sarah Marie Parks (Allen), William (Anna) Parks, Stewart Parks, Sabrina (Todd) Reber, Scott (Caleigh) Parsons, Shawn Parsons; eight great-grandchildren, Hunter Hadley, Jake Hadley, Alexandrea Reber, Savannah Reber, Henry Parsons, Oliver Parsons, Benjamin Thigpen, and Ellie Wren Parks; a brother Ralph McLeod of Dallas, TX and a sister Laura O’Brien of Auburn, AL.
