Mr. Charles Glen Cain, 93, of Dothan, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Extendicare, after a short illness.


Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2016 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Grandstaff and Rev. Stacy Stafford officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Friday morning at the funeral home.


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 423 E. Cottonwood Rd., Dothan, AL 36301.


Mr. Cain was born January 19, 1923, in Enterprise, to Monroe Lafayette and Nancy Smith Cain and spent his early life in Enterprise. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Cushing in the South Pacific in WWII. In 1948, he met the love of his life, Lillian Simmons, and they were married December 18, 1948. They resided in Dothan, where they were faithful members of Southside Baptist Church for over 65 years. After 67 years of marriage, Lillian passed away May 26, 2016.


Mr. Cain was an auto mechanic and co-owner of Cain & Grimes Auto Repair for several years and taught automotive mechanics for 26 years at Wallace College Technical School. He loved growing roses and was a member and past president of the Rose Society, as well as a member of the Beekeepers Club. Charles will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, as well as a friend. He treasured his family, was a wonderful Christian and a true Southern gentleman, who will be missed by many.


In addition to his dear wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Milton, Harvey, Bill, and Donald; sisters, Nadine Byrd and Jeanette Griffin; and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Cain.


Survivors include his sons, Glen F. Cain (Betty) and Stan M. Cain (Theresa), all of Dothan; five grandchildren, Tina White (Richard) of Montgomery, Sarah Tyson of Dothan,  Andrew Cain of Birmingham, Paige Whittle (Devin) of Montgomery, and Sandi Mims of Dothan; eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Joe Simmons (Hermenia) of Zaragoza, Spain; sisters-in-law, Ophelia Oakley (Mike) of Dothan and Lucile Cain of Enterprise; special niece, Mary Sue Cain of Enterprise, and numerous other dear nieces and nephews.


Pallbearers will be Andrew Cain, Mike Oakely, Devin Whittle, Doug Mims, Matt Mims, Parker Whittle, and Peyton Whittle.


The family wishes to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Extendicare, for their loving care.
