     Charles P. Hayes, III age 85, a resident of Elba, Alabama passed away Saturday, November 30, 2024 at his home. In accordance with his wishes, private services will be held, and entombment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home. 
     He leaves behind his wife, Rebecca Colquett Hayes, Elba, AL, daughter, Katrina (Kenneth) Calhoun, Elba, AL, son, Charles P. (Kerrie) Hayes, IV, Pike Road, AL, daughter, Ceina Hayes (Terry) Spicer, Elba, AL, along with grandchildren, Wesley (Savannah) Calhoun, Lynn Haven, FL, Katelyn Calhoun (Dylan) Seay, Elba, AL, Charles P. Hayes, V, Pike Road, AL, Hadley Hayes (Trevor) Thigpen, Dothan, AL, Conner Hayes, Pike Road, AL, Hayes Ballard (Lindsey) Spicer, Mobile, AL, and J. Cole Spicer of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by a great grandson, Hayes Ballard Spicer, Jr. of Mobile, AL, and a nephew, William G. Clark, Jr. of Elba, Alabama. 
    Charlie, a second-generation funeral director, served the residents of Elba and surrounding communities as the owner of Hayes Funeral Home from 1960 until 2022. He will be remembered for his care, compassion, and professionalism by those he was honored to serve. He was actively involved in the Alabama Funeral Directors Association, serving as President in 1973, and continuing that role in 1974 due to illness of the incoming President. 
     Charlie loved Elba and its people. He was active in every facet of city government throughout the years. Due to his savvy business acumen, he was selected to serve on multiple city boards, and was often sought out for his input on decisions that would affect the town and fellow residents. He had numerous years of service with various civic organizations and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow designation through his service with Rotary International.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Evergreen Cemetery, c/o Elba City Hall, 200 Buford Street, Elba, Alabama 36323.
