“Retired Major, Charles Thomas Woolwine, long time resident of Enterprise, Alabama, passed away on August 4, 2022 at 8:32am, surrounded by his family. Charles (Chuck) as he was known to many in the area, was born January 22, 1943 in Bourbon County, Kentucky to the late Theodore and Cordie McCoy Woolwine. Chuck and his siblings grew up in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  Chuck joined the US Army in 1960, touring Europe and Korea with two tours in Vietnam and retired after 22 years of service. After moving to Enterprise, he signed on for his next life’s work, as an instructor helicopter pilot and then later, a helicopter maintenance supervisor for various contractors at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Charles enjoyed flying. He proudly carried a rotor and fixed wing license. He enjoyed woodworking and remolding projects. Chuck was happiest surrounded by his five daughters and eight (soon to be nine) grandchildren. He was a man of few words, but within those words were lasting impressions of wisdom, enhanced with an abundance of sarcasm and quick wit. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and a close brother-in-law, Harry (Sandy) Parker.  He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Betty C. Ingalls Woolwine, daughters Anne Woolwine (Steve) Philpott of Owensboro, Kentucky, Chelsey (Mike) Hartwick of Enterprise, Alabama, Lanea Weeks (Brad) Faulk of Geneva, Alabama, Deanna Weeks (Michael) Asdel of Birmingham, Alabama. Dina Weeks Tucker of Birmingham, Alabama and Mark Tucker of Huntsville, Alabama. He is survived by four siblings, Ted (Beverly) Woolwine of Esto, Florida. Gerald (Eileen) Woolwine of Grand Junction, Colorado, Barbara (the late Sandy) Parker of Waynesville, North Carolina. Carolyn (Steve) Collins of Cario, Georgia. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Cade Faulk, Madison Tucker, Grant Tucker, Seth Asdel, Emma Tucker, Sierra (David) Kemper, Austin Philpott, Grayson Philpott and Isla Hartwick. He also leaves behind one great grandchild, Easton Helms. Chuck will be laid to rest at Beals Memorial Cemetery in Fort Walton Beach, Florida with a graveside service, honoring his life and military service at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, AL directing.
Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Chuck’s respite companion Selina Stocksill and our appreciation to Kindred Hospice of Enterprise Alabama as well. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
