Charles Wright Atkins
Charles Wright Atkins, a resident of Ashford, died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan. He was 79.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Byrd Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Dothan City Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Hughes officiating and Byrd Funeral Home directing.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mision Vida Nueva, a faith based mission serving orphaned children in Guatemala, Mision Vida Nueva, 305 Lancelot Lane, Opelika, AL, 36801, (misionvidanueva.info) or a charity of your choice.
Mr. Atkins was born May 17, 1934 in north Alabama and spent his life in the Dothan area. He was employed with the City of Dothan Traffic Signal Division for over 30 years. After his retirement, he and his wife, Nell, traveled the United States. Mr. Atkins was of the Baptist faith and served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He is predeceased by his parents, John R. and Sarah Windham Atkins, his wife, Nell, his brother, David Atkins, and his stepsons, Jim and David Bolick.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Michael Bolick (Jessica) of NC, Jamey Bolick (Kelly) of TN, Terri Bolick of AL, Michelle Bolick-Butler (Matthew) of Tampa, FL; great-grandchildren, Megan Ellis of Birmingham, Joshua Bolick, Madison Bolick, Emily Bolick and Catheryn Bolick; nephews, John Atkins of Opelika, AL, Pat Atkins of Pike Road, AL and Charles Atkins of Merritt Island, FL; his adopted children, Kenny (Linda) Gotham, of AL, Aslam Rana and Family, Sohail Qureshi and Family and Amir Qureshi and Family, all of Dothan.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Russ Rana, J.D. Atkins, Chipper Atkins and Destin Kelton.
