Charlie Pollard “Chuck” Hughes of Geneva, AL passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. He was 81 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva, AL with Revs. Troy West, Thomas Ealum, Cloys Joiner and Rodd Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Assembly of God Church Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, AL directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, January 21, 2023 beginning at 10:00 A.M.
Charlie was born in Elba, AL on September 22,1941 to the late L.D. and Robbie Opal Hines Hughes. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corp for eight years, having served in Vietnam for two tours. He worked for several years in computer operations at Fleming Foods in Geneva and then, Reliable Metal Products, where he retired. After retirement, he fished and spent time with his family and friends. Bro. Charlie loved the Lord and was a dedicated student of the Bible, especially the Dake Study Bible. Many people have been blessed by being gifted one of these bibles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Maxine West Hughes, one brother, Gene A. Hughes and one sister, Sarah Lowell.
Charlie is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Hughes Smith (Will), Leonia, FL; one grandson, Lane Hughes Smith, Leonia, FL; one brother, Pat Hughes (Sylvia), Geneva, AL; two sisters, Jan Courson (Tommy), Kinston, AL and Sue Wood (Glenn) of the Damascus Community; special sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Jimmy Howell, Geneva, AL; a number of special nieces, nephews and extended family. He was survived by a very special canine buddy, “Hammy”
Serving as pallbearers will be: Will Smith, Lane Smith, Spenser Peters, Robby Helms, Ron Scroggins and Dennis Ward.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Pat Hughes, Johnnie Bowers and Bob Lucas.
