Cherry M. Thomas, 93, a longtime resident of Dothan, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 in Henry County.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Windsor officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Mr. Thomas was born in Headland, Alabama and lived the early years of his there. At 19, he entered the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific in World War II. He was the recipient of numerous commendation medals before his retirement as Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service.
In 1957, he moved to Dothan and was then employed as a telephone switchman for almost 20 years prior to his retirement with GTE. He also established Thomas Trailer Court on Hwy 231 South (now known as Pecan Point RV Park) which he operated for over 40 years until his death. Mr. Thomas was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Fleet Reserve Organization. He was admired by all who knew him.
Mr. Thomas is predeceased by his wives, Rosa Bianca Sberna Thomas and Myrna Lea Thomas; a granddaughter, Laura Thomas; four brothers, Shelley Dowling Thomas, Jr., Charles Lafayette Thomas, Shelby Lee Thomas, and Angus Bush Thomas; two sisters-in-law, Eura Thomas and Margaret Thomas.
Survivors include three children, Charles Thomas, Patricia Thomas and Barbara Hendrix; three grandchildren, Dylan Hendrix, Rachel Hendrix and Jennifer Thomas; sisters-in-law, Rosa Thomas and Wynett Thomas, several nieces and nephews also survive.
