Christopher Jay Whitfield, a resident of Dothan, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018, following a brief illness. He was 44.

Funeral services for Chris will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 9, 2018, in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Norman Simmons. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Chris was born August 5, 1973, in Anniston, Alabama. He moved to Dothan in 1977 and was a 1992 graduate of Northview High School. He was a graduate of Wallace College where he was a member of the Golf Team and Troy University. Chris loved the outdoors, sports, and his pets. He was a talented athlete who was gifted at every sport he attempted. Chris found joy in his children and his wife; his world revolved around them. His kind spirit and infectious smile will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Chris is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Hugh Merrill and Gertrude Whitfield, and maternal grandparents, Ed and Vera Cade.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Brooke Smith Whitfield; his son, Grayson Whitfield; his daughter, Emerson Whitfield; his parents, Bob and Penny Whitfield; his brothers, Russ (Elizabeth) Whitfield and Wes (Denise) Whitfield; his father and mother-in-law, Teddy and Vicki Smith; his sister-in-law, Laura (Kelly) Welch; his nephews, Daniel Whitfield, Dustin Whitfield, Payne Whitfield, Grayson Crowley, and Cash Welch; and his nieces, Wesleigh Jane Whitfield, Caroline Crowley, and Zoey Rotenberry.
