Mr. Clarence Edward "Ed" Nelson, Jr. of Ozark, passed away Friday, August 14, 2015, at Dale Medical Center. He was 92 years of age.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Monday, August 17, 2015, in the Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Billy Gaither and Rev. Mike Siglar officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Masonic Rites and Full Military Honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, August 16, 2015, from 4 to 6 PM.
Mr. Nelson was born in Englewood, California on July 3, 1923, the son of the late Clarence Edward Nelson, Sr. and Goldie Downs Nelson. He served our country in the United States Army during WWII in Africa, Sicily, and Italy in the 3rd infantry division. He went on to retire in 1978 as a Master Sergeant. He later worked in Civil Service retiring after 10 years.
He was a member and past Master of the Claybank Masonic Lodge 908 and active with the Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite K.C.C.H., Dothan York Rite Bodies and a Shriner. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark and the John Wesley Sunday School class.
Surviving family include his wife, Sarah Nyhart Nelson, of Ozark; sons, Robert E. Nelson and wife Becky, of Phoenix, AZ, Gene T. Nelson and wife Carolyn, of Ozark, Howard L. Nelson and wife Vicki, of Benton, AR.; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
