MIDLAND CITY…Clarence Eugene Shirah, a lifelong resident of Midland City, died early Thursday morning, December 31, 2020, in the Clifford Chester Sims State Veterans Nursing Home in Panama City, Florida. He was 90.
A private family graveside service with Military honors will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2020 in the Midland City Cemetery with Reverend David Coggins officiating. Holman Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Shirah was born in Geneva County son of the late George Washington Shirah and Belle Ard Shirah. Clarence enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve in the Dothan unit with the rank of Staff Sergeant. In earlier years, he served in the Air National Guard. Mr. Shirah retired from U.S. Civil Service at Ft. Rucker as a Helicopter Inspector. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Shirah was a member and Deacon of the Midland City Baptist Church and formerly served as their Training Union Director. He was a member of the Dale Baptist Association. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annette Harris Shirah and all his brothers and sisters.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Cynthia Shirah (Teri) Burchfield (Steve), Panama City; and Lauri Shirah O’Toole (Joseph), Dothan; two sons, Keith Shirah (Trudy), Monroe, GA; and Kendall Shirah (Jessi), Midland City; six grandchildren, Nikki Richardson (Bryan), Rob Hughes (Sandra), Sean Shirah (Hannah), Christopher Shirah (Jessica), Sara Beth McMahan and Austin McMahan; eleven great-grandchildren, Brittany Richardson, Savannah Richardson, Jeremy Hughes, Robert Hughes, Emma Shirah, Jackson Shirah, Noah Shirah, Nate Shirah, Stella Shirah, Blaklee Shirah, Olivia Shirah and Anderson Shirah; three great-great-grandchildren, Jase Raffield, Jacob Hutto and Cooper Hutto.
