ABBEVILLE. . .Clarence Loyd Bowden, a resident of Abbeville, entered into the presence of his Savior on Wednesday afternoon, April 21, 2021, after months of illness.He was 85. 


   Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 24, 2021, in the Calvary Baptist Church Family Life Center with Reverend Jud Waldrop and John S. Riley officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the family life center.


   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310 or to Gideons International, Henry Camp, P.O. Box 473, Headland, AL 36345 or to the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Frances Morris, 251 Bowden Road, Clayton, AL 36016.


   Mr. Bowden, affectionately known as C Loyd, was born and reared in Clayton, Alabama, son of the late Clarence Bowden and Minnie Lou Bryan Bowden. He served his country in the Army National Guard. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as the oldest male member and Deacon, Training Union Director, Sunday School teacher and choir member. In earlier years, Mr. Bowden was a member of Abbeville Lions Club. He formerly owned and operated Bowden Radio & TV and later retired as an Insurance Agent from Liberty National Life Insurance Company. While employed by Liberty National, he received the award as an Honor Agent numerous times. Mr. Bowden was preceded in death by his first wife of fifty-years, Annette Kennedy Bowden and his second wife, Margaret Eason Kirkland Bowden, a sister, Mary Ann Richards and a brother-in-law, Fulton Richards.


   Surviving relatives include two daughters, Shirlene Vickers (Reverend Joe Vickers), Abbeville; and Reverend Anita Brown (Reverend Greg Brown), Ozark; two step-sons, Hosea Lee Kirkland, Eufaula; and John Taylor Kirkland (Vera), Abbeville; two sisters, Elaine Hodgson (James), Headland; and Reverend Betty Middleton (Mike),Eufaula; four grandchildren, Christopher Bruce Brown, Kaitlin Vickers Edwards (Chris), Zachary Bowden Brown (Stephanie) and David Joseph Vickers (Angel Altman); four great-grandchildren, Leah Edwards, Lawson Edwards, Raegan Brown and Easton Brown.


   Serving as pallbearers will be the Deaconsas well as Jimmy Brown and Will Barnes. 


   The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and staff of Wesley Place and especially to Darden Kirby, and his staff at Twin Magnolias in Abbeville, for the loving care and kindness shown to C Loyd during his illness. A special thank you to Beverly Harris, a special ministering friend.
