Claud Widner, a resident of Slocomb, AL passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at a local hospital. He was 81.
A funeral service to honor Claud will be held at 2 pm on Friday, October 30, 2020 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Benson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1-2 pm.
Claud was born on May 28, 1939 in Benton, Kentucky in a barn to Sidney and Mandy (Ring) Widner. Music was Claud’s life, he loved it and he especially loved playing gospel music. He played country music live on the radio on Saturday mornings as Shorty and the Short Guys with his children, Claud, John and Tony, and then he played gospel music on Sunday mornings before attending Church. Claud also enjoyed fishing at the lake and singing with his family as His Promised Land Singers and the Singing Widners for churches and nursing homes.
Claud was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Anthony Widner, his brother, Albert Widner, and by his sisters, Evelyn Cook and Naidene McConnell.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 49 years, Edna Widner; his children, Rose (Gary) Tackett, Claud Widner, John (Terry) Widner, Mandy (James) Haynes, Linda Strohn (Larry Font), Angela (Dwaine) Adkins, and Jerry Widner; his 27 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; his siblings, Maudie Leitz and Melba Coon; and a host of nieces and nephews.
