Clinton Quincey Cherry, a life-long resident of Ashford died peacefully in the early hours of Friday, May 25, 2012. He was 94 years old.


 


He was preceded in death by his wife, Merline McArdle Cherry; son, Clinton Allen Cherry; and daughter, Carolyn Cherry Brown, 4 brothers, 8 sisters, and his parents, Andrew Jackson and Era Johns Cherry.


 


 He is survived by a son, Billy Cherry; daughter, Ellen Nichols (Sam); daughter-in-law, Debra Cherry; son-in-law, Wendell Brown; grandchildren, Stephen Brown (Melinda), Candy Cherry Lawrence (Eric), Josh Brown (Tucker), Holli Cherry Ingram (Steve), Jennifer Nichols Canady (Jason), Marsha Nichols Nowell (Ben), Mary Ellen Nichols, twelve great-grandchildren, and special caregivers, A.Z. and Dean Howell.


 


Mr. Cherry was born in the Dupree Community on July 6, 1917, and lived his entire life there farming. He was a devoted husband, father, and church member, attending Antioch Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, and was honored as Deacon Emeritus. He will be remembered for his steadfast work ethic and his passion for agriculture. Mr. Cherry had a zest for life, loving the Lord and his family, above all.


 


Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Antioch Baptist Church  with Reverends Greg Aman and John Smith officiating. The interment will immediately follow the service at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


 


Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 P.M. at the church on Sunday, May 27, 2012.


 


Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Dr. Stephen Brown of Rome, GA; Josh Brown of Tuscaloosa, AL; Eric Lawrence and Steve Ingram of Ashford, AL; Jason Canady and Ben Nowell of Dothan, AL.


 


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carolyn Cherry Brown Scholarship Fund at Reeltown High School, 4085 AL Hwy 120, Notasulga, AL 36866.
