Mr. Collis Hornsby of Samson, AL passed away on Monday, December 5, 2016. He was 86.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2016 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with the Rev. Elbert Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowlawn Cemetery in Enterprise, AL with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continuing until service time.
Mr. Hornsby was born in Geneva County, AL on January 29, 1930 to the late Chester Clemmons and Cordie Dell Byrd Hornsby. Mr. Hornsby worked in the heavy equipment business along with his brother, David “Dink” Hornsby for many years. He enjoyed playing his guitar and he taught Lane how to play. He also loved playing dominoes. In his younger years he was an accomplished carpenter. Mr. Hornsby had a “green” thumb and could make anything grow.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Syble Shehee Davis Hornsby; one great-granddaughter, Makayla Davis; three brothers, Horton, Cecil, and David “Dink” Hornsby; two sisters, Eva Marsh, and Dora McIntosh; one step-son, Rodney Davis.
He is survived by two step-sons, Curtis Davis (Linda) of Coffee Springs, AL, and Bobby Lane Davis of Samson, AL; two brothers, Louie Hornsby of Carrollton, GA and Shirley Hornsby of Samson, AL; one sister, Mildred Brannon of Panama City, FL; four grandchildren, Brandon Davis (Angie) of Elba, AL, Jamison Davis (Gayle) of Coffee Springs, AL, Kacy Davis of Coffee Springs, AL, and Carissa Davis of Samson, AL; six great-grandchildren, Dillon, Brianna, and Brodie Davis all of Elba, AL, Deeanna and Logan Davis of Coffee Springs, AL; sister-in-law, Faye Hornsby of Geneva, AL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
