ABBEVILLE. . .Colon Lamar Dominey, 95, a resident of the Screamer community of Henry County, passed away Friday, October 18, 2024, at his home.



            Lamar was born December 1, 1928, in Barbour County, Alabama to the late James Colon Dominey and Lula Mae Brown Dominey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Cotton Dominey, who died July 21, 2024; siblings, Archie Dominey, Ray Dominey, Curtis Dominey, Willie Mae Greathouse, Margie Adams, and Myrtice McKee; children, Dr. Deborah Hatton Beck and David Lamar Dominey also preceded him in death, in addition to a granddaughter, Kellie Richards Stepanek.



            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Cynthia Richards (Lonnie); grandchildren, Heather Hatton, Courtney Richards Geiger (Aaron) and Austin Richards; great-grandchildren, Michael Thomas Geiger and Emma Joy Geiger; numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece and caregiver, Winnie Landsverk.



            Lamar was a member of Christian Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and taught Sunday School for many years. He was honored as Valedictorian of his graduating class at Clayton High School. Lamar retired as a Contracting Supervisor from Anderson Construction Company of Ft. Gaines. He worked in the building/construction industry for many years including his employment at Dixon Lumber Company of Eufaula. His home, family, and garden were his greatest joys in life. He was a devoted Christian and man of God who was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor.



            Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 20, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Liberty Methodist Church with Dr. Matt Mobley and Reverend Mickey Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. in the church sanctuary. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.



            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Methodist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Winnie Landsverk, 111 Kirkland Street, Abbeville, AL 36310 or  Christian Grove Baptist Church, c/o Shannon Clark, 1201 Five Mile Road, Eufaula, AL 36027 or Gentiva Hospice, 2431 West Main Street, Suite 1102, Dothan, AL 36301.



            Serving as active pallbearers will be Tom Berquist, Aaron Geiger, Austin Richards, Frankie McKee, Will McKee and Danny Morris.



            The family would like to express their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice and Lamar’s many caregivers for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Dominey during his illness.
