CSM (Ret) Julian D. Benefield of Clayhatchee passed away at his home on January 4, 2019. He was 76.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2019, at Providence Baptist Church with Reverend Tony Deese and Reverend Bobby Ned Peters officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise, Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Ora Benefield; infant son, Jefferey Douglas Benefield; brothers: Jennings Benefield and James C. (Pete) Benefield and sister, Judy B. Yelverton.
Doug was a lifelong resident of Clayhatchee. He retired from Fort Rucker after 42 years as an aircraft mechanic and retired as a Command Sergeant Major after 38 years from the Alabama National Guard. He loved to fish and grow vegetables in his garden in his spare time.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Myra Hanners Benefield; children: Julie Benefield (Jimmy) James and Christopher Cory (Detria) Benefield; grandchildren: Amber K. (Casey) Mills, Claire Benefield, Gracie Reeves, Emily Baker and Eli Baker; great grand, Samson Kase Mills; brothers: Joe R. Benefield and Jerry W. (Pat) Benefield; sisters: Evelyn Smith and Patricia Arrington; sister in law, Shelby Benefield; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of special friends from Lake Eufaula and Alabama National Guard.
