DOTHAN…Curtis T. Sprouse, a resident of Dothan, died early Thursday morning, April 22, 2021, at his home. He was 98.


   Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 25, 2021, in the Southside Baptist Church with Reverend Stacy Stafford and Reverend Hugh D. Kirkland, Jr. officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


   Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Southside Baptist Church Building Fund, 423 E. Cottonwood Road, Dothan, AL 36301 or to  the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.


   Mr. Sprouse was born and reared in Early County, Georgia, son of the late Mark Calhoun Sprouse and Gussie Hartley Sprouse. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943 and served his country during World War II. While in the military, he fought with  the 318 Infantry Regiment, Company E, 2nd  Batallion, 80th Infantry Division as a Platoon Sergeant in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany, during the Battle of the Bulge under the command of General George S. Patton, 3rd Army. Mr. Sprouse received the Bronze Star Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster as well as a Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster. In 2012, he received a Legion of Honor from the President of France. In 2008, he participated in an Honor Flight to Washington. After moving to Dothan in 1945, he retired as a Division Manager from Sears. After retirement, Mr. Sprouse was self-employed as the Owner and Operator of Sprouse Realty. In later years, he was affiliated with James Grant Realty. He was a member of the Southside Baptist Church, and the Dothan Masonic Lodge  where he was 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. Mr. Sprouse was preceded in death by his wife, Clogene Shelley Sprouse, a grandson, Shane Cravey, a sister, Willie Zelle Cox, two brothers, Gordon Sprouse and Mark C. Sprouse, Jr. and a daughter-in-law, Cathy Sprouse.


   Surviving relatives include his daughter, Jeannie Sprouse Cravey, Dothan; his son, Mark Sprouse, Dothan; three grandchildren, Scott Cravey (Lynn), Crystal Bruner and Cody Sprouse (Karla); six great-grandchildren, Lauren Cravey, Lindsey Cravey, Emily Cravey, Ashli  McCord, Grayson Bruner and Conner Sprouse; sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law from the Shelley family, Betty Kirkland, Martha Frances Givens and Yvenette Parrish (Harold), numerous nieces and nephews.


   Serving as active pallbearers will be Scott Cravey, Cody Sprouse, Hal Parrish, Cal Cox, James Alderman and Zack Henderson.
