CW4 (Ret) George C. Miller died August 1, 2016. He was 78 years old.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 5, 2016 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Gregory Okorobia officiating. The family will receive friends at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Building Fund, 123 Heath Street, Enterprise, AL 36330.
Originally from Michigan, Mr. Miller served as a US Army Aviator for most of his 26 year military career, retiring in 1985. After the Army he worked for the maintenance contractor at Fort Rucker, retiring again in early 2001. Since retirement, Mr. Miller has volunteered time with the DAV and the US Army Aviation Museum where he conducted classes in military history to flight students. Mr. Miller was a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot’s Association, the Vietnam Helicopter Crewmembers Association, the 147th ASHC Association, the original Pachyderm Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Radio Relay League, the Enterprise Amateur Radio Society, and was a Charter Member of DROMEOS. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
During his military career, he served in Panama, Germany, two combat tours in Vietnam and in several of the United States. For his service in Vietnam, Mr. Miller was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, two awards of the Air Medal for Valor and several awards for meritorious service.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Kay Lyn Wickham Miller.
He is survived by his brother, Nelson Miller (Linda) of Munith, Michigan; daughters, Rani Nicola-Myers (Jay) of Opp; Lisa Mechele Miller of Enterprise; a son, Kenneth Miller (Gulya G Va) Baku Azerbaijan; grandsons, Kevin Miller (USAF), New Mexico; Gabriel “Clay” Nicola (Natalie) (USAF) serving overseas; Zachary Sims (Julie) of Enterprise; Jessica Miller of Baku Azerbaijan; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
