CW5 (Ret) Michael John Carroll, III, of Enterprise, AL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at his home. He was 65.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, September 25, 2023 at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Dr. Olivia Poole officiating and Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. Burial will follow in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 A.M. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The ALS Association, PO Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-0022.
Michael enlisted in the Army in 1976 as a private in the Airborne Infantry. He continued to have a successful 34-year career ending in retirement as a CW5. While he loved his career as a soldier, his proudest accomplishment was his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with those he loved. He always found a way to strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He was a frequent moviegoer and became somewhat of a local celebrity at Clark Cinemas in Enterprise. In retirement he found a love for hiking where he completed 36 of the 50 high points in the United States. Michael leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories, laughter, and dedication. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father Michael John Carroll, mother Francis Carroll, brother Sean Carroll, sister Christie Carroll Carter and father-in-law Anthony Montecalvo.
Survivors include his wife, Melissa Carroll, Enterprise, AL; two daughters, Sara Carroll Krystyn (Mark), Dothan, AL; Jennifer Carroll Pelley (Adam), Campbellsville, KY; son, Michael Joseph Carroll (Kirsten), Enterprise, AL; two step-daughters, Amanda Gothard, Dothan, AL; Rachel Hopper, Fort Carson, CO; step-son, Andrew Gothard, Enterprise, AL; five grandchildren, Caden, Adelaide, Elias, Avery and Jackson; his good boy, Winston.
