OBITUARY
HOLMAN ABBEVILLE MORTUARY
DALMAN LEE SPARKMAN
BAKER HILL, ALABAMA. . .Dalman Lee (D. L.) Sparkman, a resident of Baker Hill, Alabama, died Wednesday afternoon, October 23, 2013, in a Luling, Texas hospital. He was 89.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 30, 2013, in the Prospect Baptist Church, (County Road 43, Clayton) with Reverend Hollis Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A. M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect Baptist Church, c/o Judy Hamm, 415 Hagler Mill Road, Louisville, AL 36048, or to the Prospect Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Nannie Mae Hartzog, 1034 County Road 43, Clayton, AL 36016.
Mr. Sparkman was born in Athens, Texas and was reared in Dallas, Texas, son of the late Thomas Reed Sparkman and Elizabeth Belle Harrison Sparkman. He served his country in the United States Navy Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Sparkman was a member of the Prospect Baptist Church, and a former member of the Eufaula Country Club where he was an avid golfer. He was retired as a drilling contractor for A.P. Green Refractories. In earlier years, Mr. Sparkman was employed as a drilling contractor in oil fields and also bauxite mining. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Spivey (Dot) Sparkman, a step-daughter, Carolyn Harrell Bong, a sister, Margaret Connelly, and a son-in-law, Doyle Evans.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Sharon Evans, Rockwell, Texas; a son, Dale Wayne Sparkman and wife, Rosie, Luling, Texas; a step-son, Dr. Oscar Bennett Turner, Huntsville, Alabama; and a step-son-in-law, Jerry Bong, Huntsville, Alabama; five brothers, Orville Sparkman, Jerry Sparkman, Bill Sparkman, Truitt Sparkman, and Kenneth Sparkman; five grandchildren, Mark Evans, Lori Warren, Shane Sparkman, Santo Sparkman, and Lee Sparkman; two step-grandchildren, George (Trey) Harrell, III, Shayna Lynn Turner; four great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
