MIDLAND CITY. . .Dalton Hoffman Penn, a former resident of Dale County, between Headland and Midland City, died early Tuesday morning, November 22, 2016, in the Signature HealthCARE of North Florida in Graceville. He was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 26, 2016, in the Midland City Baptist Church with Reverend Benny Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland & Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary &Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:30A.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Midland City Baptist Church, P.O. Box 694, Midland City, AL. 36350.
Mr. Penn was a native of Dale County, son of the late Hubbard Ruel Penn and Carrie McGill Penn. He was a graduate of the Midland City High School and attended Troy State Teacher’s College. Mr. Penn also attended the University of Alabama where he received a degree in Chemical Engineering and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. Mr. Penn attended Auburn University and received a degree in Civil Engineering. He was formerly employed as an Engineer in heavy construction and also taught school in Midland City, Rehobeth and Newville. Mr. Penn was self-employed as a farmer on the family farm between Headland & Midland City where he lived most of his lifetime. He was an active member of the Midland City Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and taught Sunday School. Mr. Penn was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie McKay.
Surviving relatives include a sister, Jannie S. Johnson, Dothan; nieces and nephews, Tim Johnson (Karla), Lynn J. Leger (Bobby), Claire Grantham and Mary Blanche McIntyre (Gordon).
