ABBEVILLE. . .Dan Blalock, Sr., a resident of Abbeville, died early Sunday morning, April 19, 2020, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. He was 78.


     Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, a family graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 22, 2020, in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Jud Waldrop officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.


     Dan Blalock was a lifelong resident of Abbeville, son of the late Will Long Blalock and Vallie Tate Blalock. He was a 1961 graduate of Abbeville High School. Dan attended Troy University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree both in Business Education.


     Dan retired from Wallace College Sparks Campus in Eufaula as Campus Dean. While at Sparks, he also served as Instructor and long term Business Manager, as well as serving on several boards and committees. He served as Mayor of Abbeville from 2000 until 2004 and previously served on the Abbeville City Council for several terms. Dan was a former member of the Abbeville Lions Club, and served as President of both of the Eufaula and Abbeville Kiwanis Clubs. He served as President of the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce and was an active member of the Abbeville Rescue Squad. Dan served on the Abbeville Water Board and was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and Treasurer. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Long Blalock, and a sister, Nina Blalock Weems.


     Surviving relatives include his wife of fifty-five years, Earnestine M. Blalock; a son, Dan Blalock, Jr. (Autumn); three grandchildren, Colette Blalock, Tate Blalock and Colin Blalock, all of Abbeville; several nieces and nephews.


     The family expresses appreciation to staff of the Henry County Health & Rehab, especially all those on the 100 and 400 wings, for their great passionate care and kindness. “They are Angels.”
