Danny was born June 21, 1951, in Dothan to the late Daniel Milton Lewis and Frances Ellen Pate. He was a 1969 graduate of Dothan High School. Following graduation, he attended the University of Alabama to pursue a master’s degree in journalism. Danny began his first job with the Dothan Progress and later at The Dothan Eagle. Danny not only received nominations for many awards, but even won some of those, issued by the Associated Press. His in-depth coverage of the Deadly Enterprise Tornado in 2007, became known as one of his most notable articles. His ability to cover stories accurately and thoroughly set him apart from other writers, eventually leading him to the position of Managing Editor for the Enterprise Ledger up until his retirement.
Danny was a many of many talents, when not covering stories, he had a passion for model trains, often referred to as “the Train Man”. In the early 1990’s, he was a founding member and former president of the “Wiregrass Heritage Chapter National Railway Historical Society.” Danny played an integral part in creating an event for like-minded train enthusiasts called, “Wiregrass Steel Wheels Show”, which is still active today, and known as one of the largest train shows in the Southeast. He was known for his caring nature for not only people, but animals, often supporting the Wiregrass Humane Society and the local Audubon Society. He was a proud member of Harvest Church.
He is predeceased by his parents.
