           Mr. Daniel Eugene Axtell, Sr., a resident of Henry County, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016 in his home surrounded by his loving family, from a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was 75.


            There will be a private memorial at the Axtell home.


            Mr. Axtell was born and reared in the Mexico-Dixifield, Maine area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Axtell, Sr. and Helen and Vernal Andrews and a sister, Louise Pullen.  Mr. Axtell served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War Era. He worked in construction in earlier years, before opening Headland Insulation that he owned and operated for twenty five years before retiring in 2010. Dan loved nature, fishing, hunting and gardening.


            Survivors include his loving wife of fifty one years, Jane Carr Axtell, who was also his main caregiver thoughout his sickness; three daughters, Penny Hamm (Chad), Headland; Patricia McAdams (Jesse), Bonifay, FL., and Kim Sizemore (Danny), Ozark; a son, Daniel E. Axtell, Jr., Abbeville; a brother, Frank Axtell (Gabby), Vasselboro, Maine; a sister, Donna Hunter (Royce), Waterville, Maine; eight grandchildren, Joseph Sizemore (Hannah), Chelsey Sizemore, Alex Axtell Carey (Cody), Thomas Weinhold (Ashley), Daniel E. Axtell, III, Christian Hamm, Jesse McAdams, Jr. (Emily), and Elizabeth King; seven great-grandchildren; a special family friend, Mike Driskell (Elizabeth);  a special friend and caregiver, Ann Wynn.


                        The family would like to thank  the nurses and staff of Gentiva Hospice for their loving, wonderful care they gave during this difficult time.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to Gentiva Hospice, 2740 Headland Avenue, Dothan, AL 36303.
