DOTHAN. . .Daniel George (Danny) Coleman, a resident of Dothan, died Tuesday night, December 30, 2014, in a Dothan hospital. He was 96.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 2, 2015, in the Ward-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Johnny Fain officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday at Ward-Wilson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
Mr. Coleman was reared in Pittston, Pennsylvania where he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Marianna, Florida where he met his wife, Viola. After discharge from the Air Force, he moved to Panama City, Florida where he served as a City Commissioner. In 1955, he founded the Danny Coleman Business Equipment Company in Dothan, a business he owned and operated for fifty-years. Mr. Coleman was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan and the Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Dothan Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Woodsmen Golf Group. In earlier years, he served as Master of Ceremonies for beauty pageants in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, including the National Peanut Festival Beauty Pageant in Dothan. Mr. Coleman was an avid Alabama Football fan and sponsored deep sea fishing trips for the coaches on numerous occasions. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-seven years, Viola Darby Coleman, and a brother, Francis Coleman.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Ronnie Coleman, Miramar Beach, FL; and Ted Bridges (Nyra), Dothan; three grandchildren, Kelly Coleman, Todd Bridges (Gina), andTony Bridges (Ellen); four great-grandchildren, Will, Hudson, Mary Lisenby, and Watson Bridges.
