Daniel Jerry “Danny” Grover, Sr., 74, a resident of Ashford passed away April 2, 2015 at his residence following a long and courageous battle with cancer.


Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Watermark Church with Rev. Todd Thorpe officiating. Burial will follow in Hodgesville Baptist Church Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 3-4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.


Mr. Grover was born October 14, 1940 in Augusta, Georgia and lived there until he was 8 years old. He relocated to Panama City, Florida and lived on the beach where he taught water skiing. He joined the U.S. Navy and served for 4 years. Mr. Grover moved to Dothan in 1963 and was an employee of the Paper Mill starting in 1967 where he worked for 37 years until his retirement in 2003. He was an avid fisherman and loved Alabama Football. He was a faithful member of Watermark Church and loved attending the Loop on Wednesday mornings.


Mr. Grover was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Brown Grover; his father, Ernest P. Grover, Sr.; his brother, Ernest P. Grover, Jr.; his wife of 37 years and the mother of his children, Mary Watson Grover.


Survivors include his wife, Marie Armstrong Grover of Ashford, AL; daughters, Tammy (Scott) Lyman of Blacksburg, VA and Terri (Brent) Marshall of Ashford, AL; sons, Robbie Byrd of Prattville, AL and Dan (Jerris) Grover of Sneads, FL; grandchildren, Danielle Mowitz, Dane Mowitz, Grant Lyman, Anna Marshall, Cody Marshall, Casey Grover, Ryan Grover, Taylor Reed, Caleb Reed, and Ethan Byrd.


Serving as pallbearers will be Raymond Merritt, Phil Merritt, Larry Bonds, Joe Thompson, Jackie Smith, and Bill Thorne. Honorary pallbearers will be Winston Shelley, Carlton Floyd, and Dewitt Scott.
