Daniel Kermit McSween, 86, a resident of Cottonwood, died Monday May 21, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness.


Graveside services with military honors will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Newton, Alabama with Pastor Troy West officiating and Kendall Glover directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Flowers are being accepted.


Mr. McSween was born May 13, 1932 in Newton to William Alvie and Mattie Lee York McSween. In 1950, he graduated from Newton High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U. S. Air Force. Mr. McSween attended George C. Wallace Community College where he received his training as an electrician and in aircraft mechanics.  He was employed with Pemco for many years prior to his retirement and was of the Baptist faith.


Mr. McSween is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Betty Rae Hartzog McSween and three brothers, James Rupert McSween, A. J. McSween and William Curtis McSween.


He is survived by two daughters, Mattie Henderson of Cottonwood and Margaret Ann Gifford (Andy) of Headland; three sons, Bobby McSween (Rhonda) of Dothan, Les McSween (Kim) of Dothan and James Norman McSween (Angel) of Haleburg; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Winfred McSween (Mildred) of Dothan.
