David Franklin Shiphorst, Jr.
David Franklin Shiphorst, Jr., age 73 of Headland passed away early Monday morning, July 23, 2018 at Noland Hospital, following an extended illness.
Memorial services for Mr. Shiphorst will be held at 2PM Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Newville Baptist Church with Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating, under the direction of Derek Wright and Family First Funeral Care.
Mr. Shiphorst, or Poppo as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren was born February 22, 1945 in St. Petersburg, Florida to the late David Franklin and Dorothy Baker Shiphorst. Spending most of his life in Florida, he worked in law enforcement as a deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department for many years, as well as the Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission where he worked as a supervisor. In 1998, he and his wife moved to Headland, where he lived the remainder of his life. He worked with the Houston County Sheriff’s Department as a dispatcher and process server, as well as Security at Farley Nuclear Plant. Mr. Shiphorst was of the Baptist faith and attended the Newville Baptist Church. He was also a 33rd Degree Master Mason (Tampa Lodge) and enjoyed amateur radio in his spare time.
Mr. Shiphorst is survived by his wife of 52 wonderful years, Andrea Steelman Shiphorst of Headland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Kristy Shiphorst of Headland and Brian and Nancy Shiphorst of Navarre, FL; four grandchildren, Kyle “Vito” Shiphorst, Cayli Shiphorst, Brian Shiphorst, Jr. and Garret (Savanna) Shiphorst; a great grandson, Carter Shiphorst; a sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Tom Schaaf of Seminole, FL and his beloved English bulldog, Bubba.
