David Mitchell Kirkman, of Dothan passed away unexpected at Southeast Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama, on Sunday, February 4, 2024. He was 63 years old.

David proudly served in the Navy, his chest decorated with the Navy Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with Star, and Meritorious Unit Commendation. After serving his country with honor, he retired as an Aviation mechanic from Comanche Airfield, where his legendary wrench-wielding skills were only matched by his ability to tell a good story.

Off duty, David was a master of the rod and reel, and a travel enthusiast who could always be found plotting his next adventure. His hands were as handy as his wit was sharp, and his wisdom as deep as the waters he loved to fish.

David was preceded in death by his father, AMH1 Harold Glenn Kirkman; stepfather, Harry Gardner; and sister, Dianne Kirkman Wells.

Survivors include his loving mother, Kathryn Gardner; his sons, Justin Kirkman (Chelsey), Robert Nicholaus, Kirkman and John Ryan Kirkman; his grandson, Jaxon; his sisters, Debbie Dillender, Donna Newcomb, and Melissa Amas; and several nieces and nephews who will miss him.

There are no services scheduled.
