David O'Neil Phelps, Sr, 76, a resident of Dothan passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Wesley Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allie Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Phelps was born May 18, 1939, in Chester, PA and he lived the early part of his life in Wallingford, PA. He graduated from Nether Providence High School and later graduated from the University of Miami in 1967 with a BS in Business Administration. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity while attending Miami. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served with the Army Intelligence Corps. He moved to Dothan 37 years ago and was a Security Manager with GTE for 25 years. Mr. Phelps loved all sports including football, baseball, golf and soccer. He coached little league baseball and soccer at Westgate and also refereed soccer games. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he was a former usher and served on the Administrative Board many years ago.

Mr. Phelps was preceded in death by his parents, Neil T. Phelps, Sr. and Sue Burke Phelps, his brother, Ted Phelps, and his sister, Jane Phelps Corcoran.

Survivors include his wife Phyllis Phelps; his son, David O'Neil Phelps, Jr.; several nieces and nephews.
