David was born on August 21, 1939 in Anniston, Alabama to William David and Bertha Alene Ellis. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 22 ½ years. David was a good and faithful servant, using his GI Bill to become a pastor for more than 20 years in Florida and Alabama. After serving God, nothing was more important to David than his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed every minute with them, attending their baseball games and other events. David was a kindhearted and gentle soul; he would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need. He also enjoyed playing golf and watching baseball when time would permit.
David is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Donna Perry, his brother, Gordy Ellis, and by his sister, Frances Farmer.
David leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 61 years, Margerite Ellis; his daughters, Debora (Tuan) Tran and Nancy (Sean) Law; his 5 grandchildren, Calla, Carissa, Justine (Tanner), D. J., and Michael; his 3 great-grandchildren, Makaylah, Theryn, and Jade; and several nieces and nephews.
