David S. Grimes SEPTEMBER 3, 1953 â OCTOBER 3, 2018 Obituary of David S. Grimes Charlotte - David Steward Grimes died Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at the age of 65, marking the end of a wonderful life that was full with love. Born in Dothan, Alabama on the 3rd of September, 1953 to the late Harris and Mary Grimes, David had three brothers, Charles, Mickey, and Steve whom he was close to throughout his life.
After graduating from Troy State University, David moved to North Carolina in 1973 to write for the High Point Enterprise and to Charlotte in 1978 where he began a 35 year career in medical sales. On August 30, 1975 he married the love of his life, Charlotte Cherry-Grimes who remained faithfully by his side through the end.
A generous, honest, and loving spirit, David touched many lives with his gentle kindness, his enormous heart, and warm sense of humor. He loved spending time at the beach with his family and friends and was a gracious host to many. He was deeply passionate about Alabama football and was a lifetime Carolina Panthers PSL owner. He is survived by his aforementioned wife and brothers in addition to son, Alex and his wife Daniela Amortegui; daughter, Taylor and her husband John Bell; brother-in-law, Randall Cherry; sisters-in-law, Harriet Saunby, Lana Grimes, Cindy Grimes, Loretta Grimes and Kathy Cherry; nieces, Tracy Blanchard, Ashley Newton, Stephanie and Natalie Cherry, Charlotte Barber, Camille Barber, Alyssa and Kendall Newton, Katherine Blanchard and Ginger Grimes; nephews, Chris Grimes, Landon Barber, Patrick Newton, Tony Blanchard, Quinn and Levi Barber, Bennett Blanchard and Harris and Griffin Grimes; and his beloved Sewing Circle.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 pm at Harry & Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, on Saturday, October 6th. The Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 pm in Harry & Bryant's Chapel. His life will be celebrated at 9735 Community House Rd. at 4:00 pm following the memorial service.
