DAYTON NATHANIEL JONES, JR.
ABBEVILLE. . .Dayton Nathaniel (Hugh) Jones, Jr., a resident of Calhoun Drive, Abbeville, died Thursday morning, May 17, 2012, in a Dothan hospital. He was 71.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 20, 2012, in the Union Springs Baptist Church, near Newville, with Reverend Randy Stokes officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Abbeville.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Union Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Josie Whiddon, 359 County Road 145 East, Headland, AL 36345.
Mr. Jones was born and reared in Eufaula and was a 1958 graduate of Eufaula High School. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and retired with rank of Tech Sergeant after twenty-one years of service. Mr. Jones served his country during the Vietnam War in the Tet Offensive. He was a member of the God’s Way Baptist Church, near Eufaula. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Nobie Benefield Jones, his father, Dayton Nathaniel Jones, Sr. and his mother, Jewell Jones Riley.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Toni Walker, Eufaula; and Kelly Trawick and husband, Cory, Newville; a brother, Bruce (Sonny) Jones and wife, Florence, Montgomery; three grandchildren, Lindsey Herring and husband, Chase, Nick Walker and Reagan Trawick; a great-grandson, Alex Herring; numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Nick Walker, Chase Herring, Donald Paul, Terry Jones, Doug Baxter and Shane Harris.
