Deacon Harry Charles Jones (MSgt Retired, United States Air Force), a resident of Enterprise, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024. He was 80 years old.
A memorial service will be held for Deacon Jones 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 1, 2024 from Daleville Christian Followship Church with Archbishop Carl McComb officiating, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Full Military Honors will be presented by the United States Air Force following the service. Flowers will be accepted.
Mr. Jones was born December 22, 1943 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late O. D. Jones Sr. and Ida Mae Hearn Jones. He matriculated through the Tuscaloosa County School System, where he graduated from Druid High School in 1961. After high school, Harry enlisted in the United States Air Force where he loyally served for 25 years, obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant. While in the Air Force, he served in various military installations around the world which included two tours in Vietnam. Harry was a competitive athlete during his Air Force career, winning trophies in skiing and martial arts. After leaving the military he began his civilian career with the Federal Government at Fort Rucker. Harry was employed as a firefighter before retiring with 22 years of service. He joined St. John Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully until he moved away to serve in the military. Harry became a member of Daleville Christian Fellowship where he served as a Deacon, Armor Bearer, Chosen Male Choir Member and van driver. Harry’s favorite scripture was Psalm 31:1: “In Thee O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in thy righteousness.” He had a passion for helping others, frequently visited the sick and shut in and often transported others to their appointments.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, O.D. Jones Sr., Ida Mae Willis and James Willis; siblings, O.D. Jones Jr., Barbara Jones-Cherry, Mary Jones, Jerome Jones, Jon Willis; grandson, Kevyn Goodman, and in-laws Bernice Ramsey and Elizabeth McErvin.
He leaves behind his wife of 24 years, Brenda Ardis Jones of Enterprise, Alabama; two children, Valerie Renee Jones and Katrisha Jones of Panama City, Florida; three step-children, Melissa Hardy (Jason) of Orlando, Florida, Alesha McErvin of Moncks Corner, South Carolina and Willie McErvin, Jr. of Enterprise; ten grandchildren, Di`Monique Rainey, Chaz`ton Scott, Ja`leah Jones and T`Riyah Jones of Panama City, Florida, Deshaun Williams of Beaufort, South Carolina, Christian and Amiyah McCollough of Orlando, Florida, Marquise Manning of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, Quadir and Kailani McIrvin of Graceville, Florida; his in-laws, Laura Jones and Sharon Willis; his siblings, David Jones, Gloria Jones (Mark), Debra Willis-Petty (Ira) all of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Kenneth Willis (Gilda) of Fayetteville, Georgia, Tollie Thomas (Robert) of Ariton, Alabama, Jeremiah Ardis (Linda) of Atlanta, Georgia, Ellawese Ardis, Dorothy Pearson (Roy), Etta Petty all of Ozark, Alabama, Zena Ardis, Evon Alvin (Fredrick) of Enterprise, Alabama and Oscar Lee Ardis of Huntsville, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and an abundance of friends.
